6 Month Update

20 Dec

It’s been just over 6 months since I broke my jaw. I am very happy to say I can now open my mouth 4 fingers wide!! The only food I struggle to eat is an apple. I think this may be because I’ve gotten used to eating slices and I prefer eating it that way now.

Your list from July 6th of things you couldn’t wait to do.. I’m going to copy it and write it down so I can look at it everyday. I cannot wait to do each and everyone one of those things. Well I’ll change out the word “husband” for “girlfriend” =P. My jaw was fractured on the 21st as a result of a car blowing a stop sign and taking me out while riding my moped. I had just gotten it as a bday gift from my gf about 2 months prior.. a beautiful 1976 classic! Anyway, your blog is very helpful as is all the other blogs. Thank you very much for writing it. I know I have several more weeks to go and your wireless posts are so helpful in terms of what to expect. thanks again and have a good one!

Jared, I’m so sorry about your accident. Keep your head up it will get better! I went to the dentist about 2 months ago and he said my jaw was functioning like a ‘normal’ person. That was 8 months after the accident, though I think he would have said the same thing had I seen him 5-6 months after.

The biggest thing to remember is you won’t be able to eat a steak right after! It is going to take awhile to build up that strength again. You’ll also find yourself cutting your food up like you are preparing it for a toddler! All of a sudden one day you’ll find yourself biting into a nice sandwich and it will be the best thing you’ve ever tasted!

Thank you for your very kind words! I’m sorry for not catching your reply sooner! I’m trying my best to stay off the computer and away from the tv as much as I can because it was definitely becoming a habit. I received a knee injury from this incident too but with time/pt/maybe surgery it’ll also pass I’m sure.
I’m definitely doing my best to keep my head up. A lof of friends tell me that they wouldn’t be able to sustain a liquid only diet but I tell them.. if they had to they would because there’s really no choice! I’ve actually found I can finally make myself feel full by blending in goldfish crackers into my soup. Makes it feel much hardier, thank goodness.

I’m very glad your dentist told you everything looks good. Hmm, 5-6 months? Shoot. I guess I was definitely underestimating in my head. I was hoping shorter but I’m definitely grateful for your forum because it gives me an honest outlook. The doc and what i’ve found on the internet gives things in such general terms and descriptions and it never really matches what I would really experience in detail. I don’t think I’ll mind preparing my food like a toddler at all, well not at first, I’m dying for some paella! Its bbq season right now and I’ve already went to two. If it wasn’t for the social interaction I so definitely need after being couped up these past few weeks, I would like to avoid em for now at least haha.

Btw, I’m so looking forward to a sandwich. It’ll be what one local shop calls “The Beast.” It’s “Chicken Cutlet w/ Bacon+ Swiss+ Onion Rings Brown Gravy on a Toasted Garlic Roll.” I know I can afford it weight wise now haha. thanks for listening to my never ending babbling, I greatly appreciate it =)
